Rod Parsley vs. Jeremiah Wright

So, since we’re all talking about the problems caused by presidential candidates’ choices of “spiritual advisor”, lets talk about Rod Parsley for a moment. His belief is that it is America’s divine purpose to wipe out Islam. And McCain sought out this guy’s support.

McCain was on the John Stewart Show last night, talking about how we were fighting an enemy that was a “transcendent evil” that was diametrically opposed to everything America stands for.

But with McCain as President, what would America stand for? 1000 years of occupation in Iraq? Torture? Ceaseless world war? Fearmongering? Detainment and imprisonment with no hope of a trial? The frothing bigotry of Rod Parsley writ large?

I got chills deep within me, realizing that McCain is just another warmongering zealot who is going to fuel the fires of our holy war if he is allowed to do so. We will never know peace while people like this lead us, while we listen to them, while we let them tell us who our enemy is and what our fight is about. He is another modern-day Crusader waving a blood-stained flag. Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda tell us this is a holy war, and McCain agrees with them wholeheartedly. And neither side will ever stop until the other side is incinerated and buried in rubble, until the world is awash with the cries of orphans and widows, covered in craters where there used to be homes. Neither side will ever stop, so someone has to stop them.

On our side, we can do something about it. We can not elect another person who is ravenous for war without end.

“If McCain is our president, we will be at war with Iran.”

“John McCain is going to be a wartime president.”

Even freakin’ Pat Buchanan sees it.

  1. “…incinerated and buried in rubble, until the world is awash with the cries of orphans and widows, covered in craters where there used to be homes…”The beauty of nuclear war is that it doesn’t leave orphans and widows. Just the cry of crickets.
