I know, its a tough comparison, especially to our uber-hacked BESM. The one similarity that I see is that your “weapons” available to you are sort of fixed, or at least there is a shorter list. Kata Kariana are a lot cooler than D&D powers, but they're sort of a similar idea in some ways. You have your work-horse attack, and then periodically you also have better powers that you can throw down with.
